In the 1990s, BMW set its sights on developing a compact sedan. That idea became reality with the E36 Compact, which hit the market in 1993. The concept carried on into the 21st century with a new generation based on the E46 platform. This hatchback-style 3 Series proved popular, selling over 100,000 units. It came in a variety of trims and engines, with the 318Ti standing out as a great balance, powered by a 143-hp petrol engine.
