The Mach 1 Mustang modelled was ordered new by Northamptonshire-based enthusiast Jay Dunk, who intends to keep what he rightly regards as a modern classic. 

When the Mach 1 was announced in right-hand-drive during the summer of 2021 he already owned a Mustang GT, which he liked, but he was tempted into test-driving a Mach 1 by his local dealership, Allen Ford, Northampton, and couldn’t resist upgrading as the Mach 1’s specification and performance was staggeringly good value. 

He specified Grabber Blue because his GT was the darker shade, Kona Blue, and he wanted this car to stand out more. He took delivery in October 2022 and has since covered around 5,000 miles a year.

The Mach 1 is a much more driver-focused package than the standard Mustang GT and was advertised by Ford as being ‘track ready’. A high percentage of Mustangs are ordered as automatics, but enthusiast Jay ordered the Tremec six-speed manual transmission which features rev-matching technology for seamless down-shifts. 

All Mach 1s have a limited-slip differential to improve traction, an upgraded oil-cooler to keep the 454bhp 5-litre V8 cool, and MagneRide® adjustable dampers; features that ensured the S550 generation Mach 1 lived up to the legendary Mach 1 badge, which was first seen on the 1969 model year Mustang. Jay has subtly modified his car, fitting an H-pipe exhaust section, which makes it sound more like a traditional V8, and Steeda Dual Rate Lowering Springs.
