The Ford Cortina Mk4 is one of the most recognisable British family cars of the late 1970s and an increasingly sought-after subject for model car collectors. Launched in the UK in 1976, the Mk4 replaced the curvier Mk3 with a cleaner, more angular design and quickly became a familiar sight on British roads, driveways and company car parks.

Available as two- and four-door saloons and a practical estate, the UK Cortina Mk4 range included Base, L, GL, S and luxurious Ghia versions. Engine choices ranged from the economical 1.3 and 1.6-litre models through to the popular 2.0-litre Pinto, with the 2.3-litre Cologne V6 joining the range in 1977.

The Mk4 was an enormous success in Britain, reaching the top of the UK sales charts during its short production life before being replaced by the updated Cortina 80, commonly known as the Mk5, in 1979.

Today, the Mk4 has considerable nostalgic appeal, particularly among collectors who remember the Cortina as one of the defining cars of everyday motoring in 1970s Britain.
