When Volvo enters the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship), they did it in a unique way. A joint project with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) was built around the Volvo 850… Estate! This bold choice drew the attention of spectators and media alike. It also has a positive impact on Volvo's image and sales in the United Kingdom. On the track, the first season was a real-world learning experience for the team. Still, by the end of the season, the results were promising. Jan Lammers secured a 5th place finish in Race 2 at Brands Hatch. The 850 BTCC in its Estate version has since gone down in motorsport history as one of the most original cars used by a manufacturer in official competition!
